Land and Water

Arizona’s public lands and water are among our most precious resources, supporting diverse wildlife and offering opportunities for outdoor recreation. With over 30 million acres of public land — nearly half the state's land — Arizonans are fortunate to have access to spaces where they can hike, hunt, camp, fish, and connect with the great outdoors. However, both our land and water are under threat from drought, increasing temperatures, development, and fragmentation, making it essential to protect these resources for future generations.

At the Arizona Wildlife Federation (AWF), we are committed to safeguarding Arizona’s land and water to ensure they remain healthy and accessible for all. Protecting public lands means balancing conservation with responsible recreation, and we work with experts across the state to develop strategies that benefit both wildlife and the people who enjoy these spaces.

AWF also works to ensure that public lands are managed for the long term, defending against threats such as harmful mining, unsustainable development, and policies that undermine conservation efforts. By advocating for responsible and thoughtful development, protecting biodiversity, and educating Arizonans about the importance of our resources, we strive to maintain the integrity of Arizona’s land and water for generations to come.
