All Afield Hike With AWF - Jewel of the Creek Preserve

Join us for our next All Afield Hike with AWF at the Jewel of the Creek Preserve! We're teaming up with Desert Foothills Land Trust (DFLT) at this amazing location, which is one of the areas they have been able to protect and manage under the Arizona Preserve Initiative. This magnificent 26-acre parcel is DFLT's most popular preserve, and it isn't hard to see why. The Jewel of the Creek is a desert oasis filled with towering cottonwood and willow trees along Cave Creek, at the northern edge of the Town of Cave Creek bordering the Spur Cross Ranch Conservation Area. This property holds one of the last remaining perennial streams in Maricopa County. The unusual year-round presence of water supports a myriad of plant and animal species.

During the hike, we will utilize the mobile apps iNaturalist and Merlin to identify all sorts of flora and fauna in the area! We also look forward to learning more about the importance of protecting areas like this one.
