History of AWF
The Arizona Wildlife Federation was founded in 1923 to take politics out of fish and game management and to promote the management of Arizona’s natural resources on a scientific basis. The AWF got its start as the Arizona Game Protection Association and celebrated 80 years of conservation activity in 2003.
Our proud history has been well chronicled in some writings from early members and leaders. For a really interested background on AWF and some fun perspective on the early days, check out, “A Short History of the Arizona Wildlife Federation” by Steve Gallizioli, and “Arizona Game Protection Association Historical Sketch” by Max Layton.
