Education, research and conservation of Arizona's wildlife resources are the primary reasons the Arizona Wildlife Foundation was formed in 1967 by conservationists in the Arizona Wildlife Federation. It is a tax-exempt non-profit foundation and is operated by an all volunteer Board of Trustees.
The Arizona Wildlife Foundation has also taken a bold new approach toward providing information to the public about Arizona's rich wildlife heritage through the development and production of books and related art. Recently, this was accomplished with the publication of a book on the birds-of-prey that soar over Arizona.
This book, "The Raptors of Arizona," provides the reader with descriptions, habits, and scientific data on each of the 42 birds featured. Richard Sloan, world renowned wildlife artist, was commissioned to do the artwork for the book and his representations of each of the birds in their natural habitat are spectacular. This book is just one of the ways in which the Foundation conveys the importance of our wildlife and the need to preserve this valuable resource. Using the illustrations and information from "The Raptors of Arizona" book, the Foundation is currently working on a project which will ultimately result in a reference text for grade school children. This book is an international effort of the Foundation and Pronatura, A.C., of Mexico, and will be published in both English and Spanish versions.
In addition to its publications, the Arizona Wildlife Foundation has distributed over 12,000 teacher guides and posters each year to educators throughout Arizona. These packets feature a different aspect of the environment each year and provided teachers with ideas and lesson plans for presentation to their pupils on such subjects as the endangered animals of the world, pollution, active participation in improving wildlife habitats, and water conservation. These teacher guides are now available on the National Wildlife Federation's website at http://www.nwf.org/.
The Foundation and the Federation rely solely on donations and sales of artwork and books to build and sustain our education and conservation programs. You can contribute to our efforts with donations, bequests, gifts in trust, annuities, life insurance policies, assignments of royalties, as well as through the purchase of our books and artwork.
